By consent, we mean informed verbal consent “The explicit or implicit expression made by a person that they are willing to have something done to them by one or more other persons, or that they are willing to perform an act at the request of one or more other persons.” Consent includes the ability to make that expression, the conscious understanding of what is being done or requested, and the active willingness to engage.
- Consent applies to all persons involved in an activity regardless of role
- Consent may be withdrawn at any point, regardless of prior negotiations between participating parties.
- A Consent Violation may occur accidentally or intentionally, with or without malice, and may or may not have injurious consequences.
- A Consent Violation may be physical, emotional, mental, or social in nature
- A Consent Violation is valid whatever the gender.
- The feeling of violation consent may be not immediate, appearing a few hours or the day later.
- A Consent Violation may be obvious to all involved, realized by a subset of the people involved, or only be clear to a single individual.
Consent is…
- Informed (including sharing food, alcohol, drugs…) You and your partner shall both know the risks(do you know if you have any STIs) and activities(do you plan to have sex ?) involved.
- Enthusiastic You and your partner shall both want to partcipate. If either of you is feeling less excited about it, stop and re-evaluate
- Continuous Consent to one act, like kissing, does not imply consent for another on, like oral sex. You and your partner need to check in throughout the experience
- Not coerced or pressured Your consent and your partner’s should hinge on any fear, discomfort or pressure.
Don’t, for instance, keep asking to do something until your partner say yes. That is not consent.
Consent applies not only to sexual interactions, but also:
- non-sexual physical interaction such as hugging gifting food, beverages, a spray of water, or any other gift that could affect a person’s physical state [1]
- taking photos or filming others [link to Nowhere website??] - assigning and accepting work [need link]
